Natural Black Hair Products - H.U.G.E Online

Hello again to all, we hope like us your are enjoying the best you can of the last few weeks of summer.  How are you doing with your hair and skin care goals that we set at the beginning of the sunny season?  What natural black hair products are your favorites and what new discoveries are working for you?

We are aware Natural Black Hair Products as a title is banded about in many forums and social media platforms on the internet, but as many of us have now come to realise, the need to research products that we use in every day life, whether they are to clean our homes, wash the car, or most importantly wash our bodies and identify how natural, the stated natural black hair products are, has become even more crucial.  This is of high importance when applying products to our hair, scalp and skin as part of our daily routines.

Great healthy hair, whatever your texture, density or curl pattern starts with product selection for your hair care regime.  The irony is not lost on us when we speak with some members of our community who will take immense care with deciding what shampoo’s and waxes they have selected to apply to their mode of transport:– motorbikes or cars, lovingly referred to as their whip! For fear of ‘stripping the paintwork or preventing ‘the shine’ it should have when just washed. However, don’t bat an eyelid when choosing products to use on what we consider their prize possession: - their hair and skin.

With this in mind, let’s take a look at an ingredients lists, that if found in products without the addition of harsh chemicals and Parabens, would be a good choice to have:

Oils

As mentioned in one of our previous articles Hair growth oil for black hair most oils are emollients; which means they have the ability to provide protective layers to your hair strands and to lock in moisture.  It would be most beneficial for you to regularly moisturise your hair and then use an oil to lock in and retain that well needed moisture for Black Afro hair, which tends to be drier than other hair types.

Olive Oil

Oils are made by taking olives, the fruit of the olive trees, crushing them and then extracting the oils from them to use on food and within the creation of many products.  Like most oils, not only are they great to use in your hair, but can also be used on the skin to provide moisturising and healing qualities.  Manufacturers who use olive oil in their products do so for these beneficial reasons and to facilitate the ease of spreading on the hair, or providing ‘slip’ within lotions for the skin.

Coconut Oil

Oil extracted from natural coconuts, coconut oil is one of the most popular oils to be included in natural black hair products, again due to its natural fatty acids’ moisturising qualities.  It is reported to be the oil with one of the best absorption rates for your hair and scalp, nourishing your hair whilst providing a barrier for irritants and blocking bacteria.

Jamaican Black Castor Oil

Oil extracted from Castor Beans, which is different from the cold pressed extraction techniques of other oils.  The Castor beans are roasted and then crushed in a mortar, water is added and then slow boiled over a fire.  This process is what gives the oil it’s thick dark brown/black colour and consistency.  Jamaican Black Castor Oil is known for its ability to nourish and thicken thinning hair and control our scalp and skins sebum production when applied topically.  The Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids along with vitamin E contained in the oil are reported to add shine and make the hair feel softer.

Avocado Oil

Oils extracted from the flesh of the Avocado, which is recorded as having 30% natural oil.  It is a very popular product in hair masks and face treatments, and is another oil that is reported to have rapid absorption into the skin.

Shea Butter

Made from two oily kernels from within the Shea tree seed.  Prepared in a similar way to the Jamaican Black Castor Oil, the seeds are ground into a powder and then boiled in water.  Through this process the butter then rises to the top, is skimmed off and then becomes solid.  It used to formulate products for the hair and skin.  Locking in moisture and being reported as good to soothe dry skin conditions such as eczema is easy to see why manufacturers would use this ingredient when formulating their products.

Essential Oils

There are numerous essential oils that are used in natural black hair products, below we have listed a few of the most popular ones and their reported benefits.

·      Begamont Oil – Reduces skin conditions such as eczema and due to its scent is reported to reduce stress.

·      Peppermint Oil – Used to boost energy, and act as a stimulant for hair follicles.

·      Tea Tree Oil – Known for its abilities to boost immunity act as an anti inflammatory, unplug hair follicles and increase hair growth.

·      Lavender Oil – Can generate growth of cells and reduce stress, it also has antibacterial properties which can improve scalp health.

·      Rose – Used for its smell to reduce anxiety and therefore improving moods

·      Ylang - Is reported to stimulate sebum production which would improve hair moisture and texture helping to reduce breakage.

Now you have a good start when researching your natural black hair products with ingredients to look for and their reported benefits, that will assist you in making an informed choice. We hope this article has provided some help for you.
